Lunch Run

July 15, 2006

by Mary Newman

Once again Gary Maue was proven wrong - Trish was not with him - so that was probably why his theory about the Newman's and rain was once again debunked (ask Gary about the ZUMA). Gary is always telling people that if Bill and Mary show up to an event - it will rain. Well, that couldn't have been further from the truth on July 15, when the Club had a luncheon run to the Riviera Oyster Bar and Restaurant in Punta Gorda. The day was completely dry much to the delight of Chuck Maher - who drove his Stalker -  without a top - no less and the other nineteen participants. We had a very nice run from Matlacha to Punta Gorda up Burnt Store Road to the restaurant with a lovely waterfront view.  The longest distance award goes to Joe Perkins & Barb Oakley. They came up from Collier County.

Car wise, we had a good representation of Marques: Cecil Carter and his friend Lynn came in his immaculate 1966 E-Type, Chuck Maher in his Stalker.  Triumph was well represented with Gary Maue and Bill & I in our Spitfires, and George & Louise Krause in their TR3. We had a group of TVR's, Jerry & Marjorie Wilcox with Milt Wilcox, in their  2 TVRs and Lee Porter in his Black TVR.  Joe Perkins & Barb Oakley came in his very nice 1965 AH 3000. It was also great to meet Donn & Barb Davis in their 1980 MGB. John & Carol Mellor (getting over knee surgery - what a trooper she is) came in their PT Cruiser along with John's mom, who was visiting from PA. JoAnn Sizemore came (after a little confusion on the location) to join in the luncheon. The food was great and the drive was fun - and Gary - absolutely not a drop of rain fell. So I guess you will have to come up with a new theory - or better yet plan a luncheon run. Thanks to all who came.
