Cool Cruise to Naples
January 26, 2008 Article by Tom Bruno ('79 MGB, BCCSWF & '50 Ford CCSWF) It was a cool winter morning in on Saturday, January 26th when the putt-putt and smoke of 2 Little British Cars entered the display area of the Cool Cruisers Annual Car Show at the Golden Gate Community Center in Naples. They parked in the BCCSWF reserve area next to a not very modest, light blue MGB which already had it's bonnet wide open and it's booty exposed to the breeze for all to see. That's when things began to heat up. Over 250 hot rods, muscle cars, corvettes and classics roared in, not to be upstaged by Jerry and Marji Wilcox's TVR and John Shoemaker's Black BEE-uty. It was a fun day with clowns doing balloon animals and face painting, 1950 music, auctions, raffles and plenty of food. Sorry BCCSWF, no beer or ale. We gave out 75 trophies and only one went to a British-like replica AC Cobra. Next year that will be different, we plan to have a lot more LBCs and enter them in the "SPECIAL" category, which may garner a few trophies for the BCCSWF. The Cool Cruisers raised over $15,000 which will be donated to Children's charities like the Shriners Children's Hospital. Jerry solicited membership to 2 independent MGB owners at the show. Tom Bruno auctioned off a John Deere (child's) electric "mule" and raised almost $ 250. Adren Hance took out time from his band performance to make a cameo appearance at the show. Next year we can top off the show with dinner at the Olde English Pub. We hope to share the fun with you next January in Naples, Florida. |
