Several of our Club members attended the "Run to
London" Car & Bike Show fundraising event put on by Fort
Myers High School Green Wave Marching Band [They are
raising money to go to London to March in a parade]. The
event was held on Saturday, June 24th Noon - 5pm [cut
short due to upcoming storms- it was planned to end at
7pm with live music, games, and loads of fun].
There were classes for pre-'50s, '50s, '60s, '70s,
muscle cars, modified and sports-import, but for an
event to fund the London trip, they forgot a British
class. Our cars were the only imports! No Asian cars
and would you believe? AND not one Mini, new or old ...
what is up with that? And I can't forget all of the Bike
that were there - choppers, Harleys, Trikes, custom, and
so many more.
BCCSWF participation was shown by our club banner and
the Union Jack hanging from the canopy we gathered under
to avoid sunstroke.
Our club was represented by Jerry & Marji's 2 TVRs
[with Marji's taking 2 place in the 70's car group]
Bruce & Carolyn Skaggs' Triumph TR3B [taking 1st place
in their class - sport-imports], and Cecil Carter's
Jaguar. There was another Jaguar there - parked with the
Mustangs and Chevys. That just would not do! We asked
and he agreed that joining our group on the track was a
great idea. He has been invited and plans to attend our
next club meeting.
Over all the event was a great way for some of those
high school kids to see what a variety of cars there are
out there. I know that there are some that will remember
our LBCs for a long time to come. We hope that their
fundraising event and the more that they will need to
get across the pond and back are successful.
Cheers,
Jerry Wilcox
