From The President
Headley Wilson
Well another year has come and gone and so has another term ended in the history of our club BCCSWF. Elections were completed and a new slate of officers elected. We ended the year in grand style with our Christmas party held at the upscale Porto Bellos at the Burnt Store Marina. About 50 people were in attendance all smartly dressed up so much so that some of us couldn’t even recognize each other.
I have been learning to play the bagpipe chanter for about nine months now and was scheduled to play amazing grace to bless the dinner. Well I started playing but missed a couple of notes at the end and cried out for help. This help was answered by my teacher, Band Manager George Cook of Lee County Pipes and Drums who came walking in fully dressed with kilt, bagpipes and drones playing Amazing Grace. The members were all pleasantly surprised and applauded with approval to the whole scene.
Prizes were given out to three members who had achieved the most points through various club activities throughout the year. The best times in the auto cross were also recognized. Gifts were exchanged along with well wishes. Plaques were given to the out-going officers and the bagpiper played Scotland the Brave for their departure. The incoming officers were presented to the members. They are President – Headley Wilson; Vice President – Cy Ling; Treasurer – Dan Cardinal; Secretary – Ken Oehler and Activity Director – Bruce Skaggs. The past president, John Mellor, presented me with a gavel. Actually it’s a golden wrench to conduct the monthly meetings.
We have had activities throughout the year, which included breakfast, lunch and dinner runs, rallies, tech sessions, picnic and various events. We have had our first overnight run to Sebring and actually made some laps around the racetrack (next year .. Daytona). I am so looking forward to the New Year, because I have new activities to add to the agenda. I’ve also set some goals of which the main one is to increase the membership.
I want to thank all the past officers and members who kept the club active and making it a fun to be around grown up boys and girls still playing with their toys place to be. I also want to thank all the members who voted for me and think that I’ll do a good job. To them I say your confidence is secure I promise to do my best and with the support from the membership I cannot fail. Again, my thanks to all of you and I wish you all a Happy, healthy and fun New Year.
Let’s make it happen
