BCCSWF Member Maureen Larkin had an opportunity to learn more about one of the young men buried at the British Cemetery. Thanks to a family connection, she met with the brother of Roger Bensley Crosskey. Hearing about his dreams and aspirations really emphasizes the loss but also celebrates who these men were. Sadly, Dr. Philip Crosskey passed away before Maureen could invite him to visit us in the US. In the images below, you will see the article she wrote a few years ago.
From findagrave.com:
Leading Aircraftman, 1315702. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Age 20. Son of Dr. John Henry Crosskey and Evelyn Margaret Crosskey, of Edgbaston, Birming-ham, Warwickshire, England. Lot 11. Block U. Grave 4.
He was Riddle Field’s 1st fatal flying accident casualty. He was a cadet in Course 3 in No. 5 British Flying Training School (5BFTS). Course 3 was known as the ‘University Flight’ because all fifty cadets came from the University Air Squadrons of the Universities of Edinburgh, Oxford, and Cambridge.
